FAQ
1. Where is Choopa located? - Our main datacenter (and the IRC server) is located in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA. For more information on Choopa, please visit our main website located at http://www.choopa.com.2. How do I connect to the server? - To connect to irc.choopa.net (or any other EFNet server) you will need an IRC client. Among many, the most popular Windows client is mIRC. If you are a Unix/Linux user you can try BitchX. Once you have downloaded the client, set it to connect to irc.choopa.net on ports 6665-6669, or 7000.
3. How do I register a channel or nickname on EFNet? - Unlike other IRC networks such as DALNet, EFNet does not have any nickname or channel services. It is up to you to maintain your nickname and channel. Being the first person to join a channel gives you operator status in that channel, and gives you control of every user who chooses to enter it. If you loose your connection, you lose your operator status and the ownership of the channel is no longer yours. Many people use bots (such as eggdrops) to hold their channel and give them operator status when commanded to do so.
4. What happens if my channel looses all ops? - If your channel happens to lose ops, EFNet has a service called CHANFIX which can restore ops. CHANFIX constantly monitors every channel on the network and when it notices the channel is op-less it will join the channel and op the users who regularly have ops in that channel. Those clients that had ops the most over the last two weeks are opped. NO operator or admin on EFNet has the ability to join a channel and op anyone. Please refrain from asking us to op you, because it is not possible. For more information on CHANFIX, visit http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/ircd/chanfix.html.
5. I have been banned! What do I do? - For more information on klines and glines please refer to the Kline Information section of this website.
6. I was chatting with someone and they suddenly quit with the message (irc.xxx.com irc.yyy.com). What does this mean? - This means that the server that they were using split from the hub. Every user on the server was disconnected from the rest of the network. This can happen for many reasons, and the connection is usually restored within a matter of seconds.
7. I am banned from a channel I was never in! Whats wrong? - More than likely another user from the same ISP as you has done something wrong and been banned from the channel. There is nothing that IRCOPS can do for you, as we do not handle channel ownership problems.
8. Some users have cool hosts like user@i.am.elite.com. Where can I get one?! - These hosts are referred to as V-Hosts (virtual hosts). More than likely the user has purchased a shell from a provider that gives them access to these hosts.
9. When I connect to your server someone tries to connect to my computer on various ports. What is it? - Our IRC server implements a bot that scans each client for an open proxy (socks4, 5, wingate, etc). We do this because often clients that have these ports open are abusive.
9. How can I find an operator on irc.choopa.net? - To find an active operator on irc.choopa.net simply type /stats p. This will present you with a list of all available operators and their idle time. Simply use /msg nickname to get in touch with one of us.
